♪♫♪…Rock of ages, rock of ages…♪♫♪

3 Oct

As those of you who know me personally will attest, I don’t just write stories about rock musicians for the hell of it. I live and breathe rock. Whether it be Led Zeppelin’s ‘Since I’ve Been Loving You’ or A Perfect Circle’s ‘Judith’, it’s what I love.

Now I’ve finished writing and am in the editing stage of Headliner, my follow up novel to Swallow, I’ve had a little more time to devote to reading and watching other writers’ rockin’ contributions to the world of entertainment.

A recent pleasure was the recent stage-turned-screen release, Rock of Ages – Triple Play (Blu-ray + DVD + UV Copy)[Region Free]. I enjoyed it immensely (if mainly for the soundtrack to my freakin’ life) and was surprised Tom Cruise actually managed to pull off his role as rock god Stacee Jaxx. I’m all about rock being REAL, going right to the core and so I didn’t hold much hope of him trashing it. I was wrong. In fact, the main story centres round two other characters anyway, but when Cruise is on-screen, he does well.

With a glittering cast, including Catherine Zeta Jones, Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand, to name but a few, anything that can have me punching the air and singing along for over two hours gets a thumbs up from me.

Now I’ve seen the movie version, I want to go to the West End London show. So, if anyone’s wondering what to get me for my birthday…

Swallow – Music to read by

While finding new ways to procrastinate, instead of editing Headliner, I made this little playlist of songs I listened to while writing Swallow. Some are songs characters liked, others were ones that helped me get into the zone while writing certain scenes. I’ve added them in no particular order.

Enjoy!
